Roman Herzog, former President of Germany and former President of the Constitutional Court, and Lünder Gerken Director of the Centre for European Policy criticised the European Court of Justice for cheating member states of their fundamental competences, and heavily interfering with their legal systems.

Czech Constitutional Court officially announced that a verdict on a legal harmony between Czech Constitution and the Lisbon Treaty should be delivered on 10 November 2008. 20 Oct 2008 EN Politicians hatch plan to force second vote
A Sunday Times source told the newspaper that plans to force a second vote were discussed during an EP meeting in Paris. Those present at the meetings discussed how to “cuddle and pamper” the Irish while at the same time “making pressures on them”. Politicians want Ireland to believe the EU will respect the country’s sovereignty and demands, while telling the Irish people how the other 495m Europeans are watching them and “will be really angry” if the answer is no again. Without knowing the Irish position statement there can´t be any debates about ratification of the Lisbon treaty in the Czech republic, says Mr Sobotka, Prezident of the Czech Senate in the interview for Czech Parliament Bulletin. Lisbon treaty ratification might be understood as rushing with a project of a strong Europe, that is feasible in a horizont of 100 or 200 years. 30 Sep 2008 EN UK Conservatives pledged Lisbon Treaty referendum
William Hague, british Shadow Foreign Secretary, declared at the Tories annual conference (held on 28 Sep 08 in Birmingham) that if the Lisbon Treaty were unratified and on the table at the point the conservatives take office, than a referendum would be run in the UK. The Commission will host a series of post-Lisbon debates in Ireland in next weeks to address citizens' concerns, in collaboration with Irish well-known speakers. 17 Sep 2008 EN Juncker: Lisbon Treaty unlikely to come into effect until 2010
The Lisbon treaty is unlikely to come into effect until January 2010, said Jean-Claude Juncker, Luxembourg´s prime minister, being at the same time the first politician to openly acknowledge the adoption would not take place next year. Mr Juncker and Swedish Minister of EU Affairs Cecilia Malmström both prefer waiting with second popular voting in Ireland: “Given the economic crisis we’re living in, given the confidence that’s lacking, given that governments are increasingly unpopular all over Europe, organising a referendum around a European treaty is a dangerous road to take,“ said Juncker for Le Monde. An internal Irish EU briefing paper, entitled "The Solution to the Irish Problem", has shown that a second referendum on the Lisbon Treaty is highly likely. It is now expected that Ireland will hold a second referendum on the Lisbon Treaty in autumn 2009. Read more…

10 Sep 2008 - EN Czechs need to change constitution to ratify Treaty
The Czech Prime Minister Mirek Topolánek has admitted that there may be a possible “disharmony” between the Lisbon Treaty and the Czech constitution. He suggests that to over come this impasse the Czech Republic can either negotiate opt-outs from the treaty, or change the Czech Constitution. Topolánek favours the latter option. Read more…
01 Sep 08 - EN Czech Constitutional Challenge
The Czech Constitutional Court has started a factual legislative inspection of the legislative correspondence Lisabon Treaty - Czech Constitution. According to the Chair of the Constitutional Court, Mr. Rychetsky, the analysis should address 7 articles in question and articles related, not the whole Lisbon Treaty. Once the resolution delivered, it has no status of res judicata and consequently all Czech political institutions still keep right to reopen the case. German and French Constitutional Resolutions were inspiring in this leading case. The Czech quorum is 3/5 of the Constitutional judges, their approach remains unknown so far. 22 July 2008 - EN The Lisbon Treaty and The Radar-Base Treaty: Interference of politics
The Czech Prime Minister, Mirek Topolanek (ODS), foresees a possible interference while ratification of two Treaties that have been recently discussed in the Czech Republic: the Treaty on Anti-missile Radar Base and the Lisbon Treaty. According to a statement he made last week, the possible refusal of the Treaty on American Radar Base could negatively effect the attitude of Czech ODS MPs towards the Lisbon Treaty. A mutual conditioning of Treaties and a joint-decision making process is a logical step. However the opposition party (CSSD) is against the plan set by the ODS, claiming that they avoiding having to deal with the issues of each treaty. 22 July 2008 - EN Irish No Campaigner has big plans for EU elections
Declan Ganley, President of Libertas has revealed his that he is planning to field more than 400 candidates in next June's European Parliament elections. All the MEPs shall stand on just one issue – ratification of the Lisbon Treaty. "We will tell people that Libertas is the box you put your X in if you want to vote 'No' to the Lisbon Treaty. 22 July 2008 - EN Sarkozy suggests Irish revote in June 2009
French President Nicolas Sarkozy has suggested that the Irish hold another referendum on the same day as the European parliamentary elections in June 2009. Sarkozy’s plan is to guarantee of a commissioner for every member state alongside non-legally-binding declarations - not protocols or opt-outs - targeting perceived Irish concerns around abortion and defence, among other issues.
